Geneva:The United Nations Meteorological Organization (WMO) said that Asia was the land area that experienced the most climate-related disasters last year. Floods and storms caused more deaths and economic losses in Asia.
In 2023, when the global temperature broke the record, the rate of temperature increase was faster in Asia. Last year was two degrees Celsius warmer than the 1961-1990 average temperature. Heat waves cause glaciers to melt. WMO Out of the 22 glaciers that have been observed, there has been significant melting in 20. WMO has warned that the decline of glaciers will affect the water security of the region in the future. Warning.
79 major water disasters were reported in Asia last year. More than 80 percent of them were floods and storms. More than two thousand people died. These directly affected 90 lakh people.
