Even though Újpest took the lead, they lost to MTK for the third time this season – with a goal in the 97th minute

MTK came from behind and scored its second goal in the seventh minute of extra time to win 2-1 at the home of Újpest in the final match of the 29th round of the football OTP Bank League on Sunday evening.

For a long time, it seemed that the home team could improve after two heavy defeats, but – although they played with advantage and superiority for a long time – they lost again, with a goal scored in the 97th minute. In addition, they lost for the third time this season against MTK, who won 2-0 away in September and 3-0 at home in early February.

Újpest started the match agilely, attacked its opponent and created several chances in the first ten minutes. The home team already attacked in their own half, thus keeping MTK under pressure, there was a period in which the visitors had the ball for only a few seconds. The lead was taken by Csoboth, who dribbled in from the left and then fired into the bottom right corner. In the continuation, the home team retreated a little, but continued to lead dangerous attacks, while MTK’s game had absolutely no dynamics or punching power.

After the break, the guest team became more active. In the 59th minute, Németh received a pass from the right side, and the ball hit Koburi’s back and then into the goal. However, after the VAR check, the referee disallowed the goal due to handling. Still, the equalizer came, Stieber curved from the left to the center, Németh put Jurina in a position, who lifted it into the goal. In the first half, both teams played for victory, and MTK scored another goal with Jurina’s header.

In the first half of the match, Újpest played much better football than their opponent, but the second half was balanced, with slightly more MTK chances.
