Hedi Slimane leaves Celine: the rumors about the designer’s departure are increasingly concrete

At this point, the answer to those who in recent days, after the earthquake at Valentino with the sudden exit of Pierpaolo Piccioli and the arrival of Alessandro Michele, wondered whether the whirlwind rotation of positions in fashion was finally about to slow down, should be: but not at all. In fact, the rumors reported by Astrid Wendlandt, founder of Misstweed and former editor of Reuters, according to which Hedi Slimane would be about to leave Celinean LVMH brand that he has led since 2018 and which over the years he has modeled in his image and likeness, leading him to break through the ceiling of two billion euros in turnover.

The news, as imaginable, is creating an uproar in the sector. Business of Fashion, more cautious, speaks of major difficulties in the negotiations for the renewal of Slimane’s contract, suggesting that perhaps all is not lost yet. But, according to Wendlandt, the situation is now irreparable, so much so that LVMH is already looking for a replacement: there is talk of Pieter Mulier, currently driving Alaïa, a Richemont brand. According to other rumors, however, the person designated to replace Slimane would be an “unknown” person, who is already working behind the scenes.

It remains to be seen what the French designer’s next moves will be, who will certainly not remain idle for long: as has often happened in recent years, for him we’re talking about Chanel, also seeing that Karl Lagerfeld had crowned him as his heir. But there are also those foresees a future for him at Dior. However, it should be remembered that the fashion house is owned by LVMH: therefore, if we listen to the rumors that speak of a bad breakup between the designer and the group, the thing certainly appears more complicated.

In the meantime, it is worth remembering that the gossip they give is becoming more and more insistent John Galliano on his way back to LVMH, as reported by the American journalist Lauren Sherman in her newsletter Line Sheet. There are two possibilities: either the designer will continue to design Maison Margiela, and at the same time take over his namesake brand, frozen for years in the LVMH portfolio, or he will leave Margiela to return to designing Givenchy (which he had led between 1995 and 1996) also a LVMH brand. Definitely, the fashion game of chairs is just beginning.
