Due to fear of the ongoing hostilities in Israel, the Holy Synod decided that this year a representative of our country will not travel to Jerusalem. So we will not bring the Holy Fire to Bulgaria. The announcement was made by the speaker of the Synod – Metropolitan Kyprian of Stara Zagora.
He also indicated the names included in the list of eligible bishops for the upcoming elections for a new metropolitan of Sliven, scheduled for May 19: “Great Bishop Sioni, Bishop Arseniy of Znepol, Bishop Gerasim of Melny, Bishop Pachomius of Branica, Bishop Makariy of Glavinice and Bishop Isaac of Velbazhd”.
For the second time, the Sliven Diocese will hold elections for its new bishop after the death of Metropolitan Ioanikiy in January.
The second election for the Metropolitan of Sliven was reached after the elections in February were canceled due to a complaint and a report received in the Holy Synod, which the Synod has not yet formalized.
Bishop Hieroteus of Agathopol received the most votes then. The management of the Sliven Metropolitanate after the death of Metropolitan Ioanikiy was taken over by Metropolitan John of Varna and Veliko Preslav.
