European Film Award Nominees and Winners on Tour: Swiss Films 2024

This year, the promotion group SWISS FILMS, in collaboration with European film festivals, presents Swiss films and co-productions that have been nominated for or won the European Film Award. The reason for this “Tour d’Europe” is the European Film Awards 2024, which will be held in Lucerne in December. The festival starts with festivals in Stuttgart and Linz.

The Tour d’Europe kicks off at the Stuttgart International Live Film Festival (ITFS) (April 23 – 28, 2024). The festival shows the animated feature film INTERDIT AUX CHIENS ET AUX ITALIENS (France, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium), which won the award for the best European animated film in 2022. Co-produced by the famous animation film studio Geneva Nadasdy Film the film.

Producer Nicolas Burlet from Nadasdy Film in Stuttgart is a jury member for the AniMovie category. Saturday 27.4. In the lecture workshop “Sauvages – The Making of an Ecological Tale” he talks about the making of the stop-motion animated film SAUVAGES!, the new animated feature film by the Swiss Claude Barras (MA VIE DE COURGETTE ).

Swiss animator Elie Chapuis, who also appeared in INTERDIT AUX CHIENS and SAUVAGES! who worked as an animator, giving a master class: “Elie Chapuis, A Passion For Puppets” (Saturday, April 27th). Chapuis is also showing his latest short film CANARD in the International Competition. Six other Swiss short films will be screened in various competition categories.

As part of the school presentation HSLU meets [adult swim] BA and MA theses from Lucerne University of Applied Sciences – Design & Art can be viewed. And director Katrin Rothe talks about the making of the German-Swiss co-production JOHNNY & ME in “Film Talk: Johnny & Me – Behind the Scenes, Making of, VFX Breakdown”.

Next stop: Linz

The Tour d’Europe will continue to the Crossing Europe Festival (April 30 – May 5, 2024). The festival in Linz will also present a diverse selection from Switzerland: BLACKBIRD BLACKBIRD BLACKBERRY will be premiered in Austria in the presence of director Elene Naveriani. The Swiss-Georgian co-production was shortlisted as a European Feature Film 2023. The lead actor Eka Chavleishvili was nominated as a European actor. The film also won three Swiss film awards in March.

Crossing Europe will also show the Italian-French-Swiss co-production LAZZARO FELICE by Alice Rohrwacher – nominated for the best European film of 2018 – as well as THE SOUND OF INSECTS by Swiss director Peter Liechti, who died in 2014 and received an award. the European Documentary Award in 2009.

Swiss films with European awards will next go to FID Marseille and Porto/Post/Doc as part of the Tour d’Europe. Programs with Fèis dei Popoli Firenze, Jihlava Film Fest, Tbilisi International Film Festival and Reykjavík International Film Festival are also discussed throughout the year.
