At April 25, the festive hours begin operation of commercial stores in Athens and Sunday, April 28, the shops will be open.
The Athens Chamber of Commerce has announced the proposed opening hours of the commercial stores in Athens that will be valid for the Easter holiday period and on this occasion the president of the association Stavros Kafounis stated:
“After ELSTAT’s documented data for the Athens Chamber of Commerce index, which records a 3% drop in the fourth quarter of 2023 for small shops operating with haplographic books and after three difficult months at the beginning of 2024, I wish and hope that this festive period to mark the beginning of the increase in shopping traffic.
An increase that we expect and hope will be achieved not only in the areas that record a lot of tourist traffic, but also in the neighborhood markets which must be supported by the local community. The shops of the center and regional markets of Athens are waiting for consumers to do their Easter shopping, with full shelves and attractive prices. The holidays
The law states that Easter Sunday on May 5 and Easter Monday on May 6 are public holidays. Especially this year, Easter Tuesday on May 7th will also be a holiday due to the transfer of May Day.
Regarding Good Friday, according to the law, it is a mandatory half-day for shops, where the employment of employees and the operation of shops until 13:00 are prohibited.
The same is not true for other businesses. Good Friday is not included in the statutory holidays for private sector workers.
However, private businesses in our country are late in the event that Good Friday is designated as a holiday or semi-holiday by a provision of the Collective Labor Agreement (CBA), by the company’s work regulations, by business habit and custom, during which the business remains closed on this day.
