Moscow. Iran does not have nuclear weapons, something confirmed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said this Friday.
“They want to attribute to Iran, among other things, an attack with nuclear weapons, which it does not have, something confirmed by the IAEA. Iran is the most verified country among the parties to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty,” Lavrov said. in an interview with Sputnik, Govorit Moskva and Komsomolskaya Pravda stations.
Likewise, he specified that talk of Iran changing its nuclear doctrine is a “desire” to divert attention from the Israeli operation in the Gaza Strip under the pretext of alleged threats from Tehran.
The day before, the commander of the units of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) for the security of the nuclear facilities of the Persian country, Ahmad Haghtalab, declared that the Israeli threat to the nuclear facilities “allows Iran to reconsider and deviate from its declared nuclear doctrine and policy”.
According to several media, Israel launched a drone attack this Friday against the Iranian province of Isfahan, which is home to an important nuclear research center and a reactor. Iranian air defense shot down several Israeli unmanned aerial vehicles.
This attack occurred after the night of April 13-14, Iranian forces launched a broad offensive with drones and Fattah hypersonic missiles against Israel in retaliation for the attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria on April 1.
Following the retaliatory attack, Iranian Chief of Staff Mohammad Bagheri terminated Operation True Promise and warned Israel that if it attempted another reckless act, Iran’s response would be more forceful.
Israeli Minister without Portfolio Benny Gantz, for his part, announced that his country plans to forge a regional coalition and respond to the Iranian retaliation in a timely and appropriate manner.
