Taekwondo team achieves seven medals in the 2024 President’s Cup Championship in Costa Rica

The Peruvian taekwondo team, in the kyorugi modality, won seven medals in the 2024 President’s Cup Championship held in Costa Rica. In addition, he achieved four Wild Cards (invitations) for the Pan American Cadet and Youth Championships in July.

The team was led by Hasani Andrade, a member of the Athlete Support Program (PAD) of the Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD), who obtained the bronze medal in the Senior -80 kg category.

While the silver medals went to Mikaela Lanza (Cadet -51 kg), Yamile Betalleluz (Junior -49 kg), Dayron Melgarejo (Junior -59 kg) and Marco Balarezo (Junior -63 kg), while the bronze ones for Sofia Toro (Cadet -48 kg) and Valeria Requena (Junior -44kg).

In the case of the Wild Card, they were awarded to Mikaela Lanza, Yamile Betalleluz, Dayron Melgarejo and Marco Balarezo, for having occupied second place in the cadet and youth division. This will allow them to participate in the Pan American Cadet and Youth Championship, which will be held in Querétaro, Mexico, next July.
