Two Men Arrested for Opening Fire on Police Officers in Odessa Region: Ukrainian Soldiers Involved

In the Odessa region, two men were arrested for opening fire on police officers who stopped their car for investigation, said the head of the National Police of Ukraine, Ivan Vygovsky.

According to Vygovsky, the attackers were two military men, father and son, 52 and 26 years old, natives of the Vinnytsia region. Their names are not mentioned. In the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine the previous day confirmedthat in the video of the attack, distributed by telegram channels, soldiers of one of the military units.

One of the two policemen attacked, Maxim Zaretsky, managed to shoot back and wounded the attackers, but later died himself.

Criminal proceedings were initiated against detainees for murder or attempted murder of a law enforcement officer in the performance of official duties (Article 348 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). They face a penalty of up to life in prison.

On the night of April 20, in the Gaysinsky district of the Vinnytsia region of Ukraine, two men opened fire on police officers who stopped their car for investigation. One of the policemen, 20-year-old Maxim Zaretsky, was killed and his partner was wounded.

Ukrainian telegram channels said that Valery and Vitaly Vasilake, born in 1972 and 1998, wanted on suspicion of attack. The National Police of Ukraine did not specify whether they were detained.
