Quito. The government of Ecuador included this Friday in its list of “military objectives” bosses of the Mexican Sinaloa cartel and a dissident from the former Colombian FARC guerrilla.
Made up of eleven people and divided into three levels of danger, the list is headed by Ismael Mario Zambada García, alias Mayand by Geovany Andrés Rojas, known as Spiderfrom the dissident group of the Border Commandos, from Colombia.
Ecuador is mired in violence imposed by numerous drug trafficking gangs linked to international cartels, at odds with each other, but united in their war against the State.
President Daniel Noboa, determined to subdue them with a strong hand, announced on Thursday the update of the list of “military objectives.”
“No one has had the courage to say their names or their location, but they have focused on minor bosses and put the blame on minor bosses, but the structures are very large, they are very strong and they are transnational,” declared the president, in power since November.
May He is the leader of a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel and together with his partner, the captured Chapo Guzmán is one of the most recognized drug traffickers in the history of Mexico, according to the Insight Crime research center.
Spider, Also at the first level of danger, he is the leader of the Border Commandos group, attached to the Second Marquetalia, a FARC dissident that departed from the 2016 peace agreement.
The poster was published in the midst of a crisis with the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, after Noboa ordered the assault of the Mexican embassy to arrest Jorge Glas, former vice president of Rafael Correa (2007-2017), who had received the asylum.
The incursion was rejected by other left-wing governments, such as that of the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, and that of Brazil, of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Noboa does not specify whether the foreign bosses are in Ecuadorian territory.
“You can see that there are even governments that cooperate with these transnational structures, but we are not going to allow them to interfere with the country,” said Noboa, distancing himself from the leftist governments in the region.
At the other levels of “military objectives” there are nine other ringleaders, among whom José Adolfo Macías Villamar, alias Fito, stands out. The local ringleader is the leader of the Los Choneros criminal gang, one of the main gangs in the country.
Noboa called a popular consultation on Sunday to ask Ecuadorians if they agree with toughening the laws to confront these gangs through reforms such as allowing extradition.
