A total of 320 people were evacuated preventively due to a fire that occurred in a town in the state of Aragua, in northern Venezuela, authorities reported this Sunday.
The Government of this region indicated that the fire threatened to spread to around twenty homes, so “security agencies immediately went to the site to mitigate the fire and carry out a preventive evacuation of 320 people.”
For his part, the vice minister for Risk Management and Civil Protection, Carlos Pérez Ampueda, pointed out that officials have carried out the work to “block the advance of the fire” and achieve “total extinction and cooling.”
On the other hand, Pérez Ampueda reported a “fire that affected” an urbanization in the state of Miranda (north, close to Caracas), which has already been “controlled”, although he did not offer details about the damage caused by the fire.
According to official estimates, 90% of forest fires in the country are caused by humans, so the authorities opened an investigation to find those responsible, who will then be brought to justice.
As of Wednesday, 16 people had been arrested in the nation for these events, according to the Government.
Nearly 61,000 hectares have been affected in this Caribbean country by 3,115 fires recorded during the dry season, which began the second week of December 2023 and will last until mid-May, the Minister of Ecosocialism (Environment), Josué Lorca, reported on Wednesday. . EFE
