The 2024 Greatest Tour of the famous Jamaican singer, producer and actor, which begins on May 2 in Florida and closes on June 16 in North Carolina, included him in the concerts scheduled for May 7 at Leader Bank Pavilion, in Boston (Massachusetts); on May 9 at the Brooklyn Paramount, in New York; and on the 10th at The Fillmore Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
“Fire was created by Sean Paul,” Cimafunk wrote on his social networks when sharing the good news, which follows important moments this year such as the performance at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival which is known internationally, which was held in California, and in which for the first time a Cuban went on stage.
He also mentioned his participation next week (April 25 and 26) at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and at Cimafest NOLA, at the Civic Theater, with the famous Cuban musician Chucho Valdés and La Dame Blanche (stage name of Yaité Ramos, flutist, singer and rapper from the island).
Last February Erik Rodríguez (Cimafunk) brought his art to the White House. “It was a special moment to make my song Faustino Congo (…) The roots, descent… always with me!”, expressed on Instagram the popular self-taught player, born on April 7, 1989 in the western Cuban province of Pinar del Rio.
Cimafunk, a name that refers to its ‘maroon’ heritage, the fugitive slaves who took refuge in the mountains and forests, claims an African origin and brings together different aesthetic traditions – funk, blues , rumba – which come from the same root, but have taken different paths in this part of the world.
His song ‘Me Voy’, from his first album ‘Terapia’ (2017) took him to the top of popularity in Cuba and his second album El Alimento (2021), co-produced by the American Jack Splash, who is known for his work with Tyler the Creator, Ceelo Green, Alicia Keys, among others won him several recognitions.
This second phonographic production is ranked number three for the best album in Spanish in 2021 and number 23 for the best albums of the year by Rolling Stone.
It was only thanks to “El Alimento” that this young musician – who once studied medicine – received his first Grammy nomination for the best rock or Latin album.
