For the first time, a direct freight train from China has arrived at the Jade-Weser container port in Wilhelmshaven, reports Norddeutscher Rundfunk. He was welcomed by the Prime Minister of Lower Saxony Stefan Weil, representatives of the port authorities and the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China.
„In this connection, Lower Saxony shows that our rail infrastructure can function as part of the New Silk Road.” said the provincial head. The train, which left Anhui Province on June 25, traveled for 18 days and brought with it household appliances and textiles.
During this time, he traveled a distance of 10 thousand km, passing through Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus and Poland. This road opens up new markets, enables producers to increase their turnover and create new jobs. In the future, it is planned to establish regular rail transport, explains the German publication.
The train spent twice as much time on the road compared to the route of a container ship. Container ships are now short of space and expensive. So it’s good that there are alternatives. However, the train can only carry 100 standard containers, and a large container ship – 23 thousand, notes Norddeutscher Rundfunk.
