Valma, 19, Klaukkala

The creative and energetic 19-year-old Valma has seven little siblings, and she is an experienced nanny. He has graduated from high school and is working in a kindergarten. Valma still lives at home, but when she returns from Malta, she is supposed to change the most direct route to her own, new adult life. Valma is single, and she doesn’t shy away from admitting that she is a lightning rod. However, interest tends to end as quickly as it began. However, holiday romance has been ordered. Valma is proud of her bad sense of humor, and her friends believe that the trip is a welcome break for nerves – for themselves, for Valma.

Valma’s Maltese host family includes parents Edwin and Davinia Shead and their three children Mia (11), Mason (12) and Maegan (18). Grandmother Violet also lives on the ground floor of the house, in whose unusual home Valma can become a roommate. The family wants an au pair as a helping hand in the middle of their hectic everyday life. Grandma would also like to take a break from time to time and live her own active life. Will the au pair teach Valma the skills to get by on her own? And what is the dating offer like in tiny Malta?

Liisa, 19, Kotka

Kind and sunny Liisa is a 19-year-old fresh graduate from Kotka. The former track and field athlete does model work and content for Yle Summer’s TikTok. Liisa is already known to many from her videos, in which she turns the racist comments she receives into beautiful compliments. Liisa, who is religious, does not use intoxicants and does not hang out in bars. The family from South Sudan consists of a mother, father and five siblings. Liisa dreams of motherhood, but has little experience with children. As an au pair, she hopes to gain practical experience and skills for motherhood.

Liisa’s host family lives in Malta, but mother Michelle is from Sweden and father Fabio is from Italy. They have two children, 6-year-old Mia and 1-year-old Alice. Michelle is still a housewife, but an au pair is needed for additional help, as the immigrant family does not have a support network in Malta. Thanks to an au pair, the parents hope to have some quality one-on-one time for a long time. Does Liisa’s perception of parenting change along the way? And will Liisa, who is too kind and avoids conflicts, make her voice heard in a family where problems are expected to be discussed directly?

Sell, 20, Helsinki

Myy is a determined and meticulous 20-year-old who lives in Helsinki and works in a clothing store. He is taking a gap year and is considering applying for business studies. Before that, however, she wants to realize her long-term dream of living abroad, and feels that being an au pair will make it possible. The independent Myy is the youngest in his family and hopes to see a nuclear family life on the trip, which he himself has not been able to experience. As an introverted person, she is excited to meet both other au pairs and the host family. Myi doesn’t have much experience in taking care of children, but she has a clear vision of what kind of rules should be used to raise children.

My host family includes Katherine, a single mother of Filipino background, and her Pakistani boyfriend, Said. An au pair is badly needed, because while the adults are working long hours, 11-year-old Helena has had to take a lot of responsibility for her little sisters Francis (10) and Maria (7). How does Myy, who needs his own space, clarity and order, adapt to the reality of children’s everyday life? And does she make friends with other au pairs?

Sinna, 20, Tampere

Sensitive and social Sinna is a 20-year-old from Tampere. She works in a cafe and plans to move in with her boyfriend. However, Sinna, who describes herself as a positive optimist, has had a lot of sadness and worry in her life. Her father fell ill with Alzheimer’s disease when Sinna was only 13 years old. Growing up, she had to experience how a person who was so close to her eventually no longer recognized her own daughter. When I leave for Malta, it will be a year since my father’s death, and the wounds are still open. Sensitive Sinna goes to be an au pair because she wants to grow into a more independent person.

Sinna’s Ukrainian host family first fled the war to Germany, but have recently moved to Malta. The head of the family is mother Tetiana, who has two children: 9-year-old Diana and 3-year-old Erik. Granny Olha also fled the war with them. Tetiana and the children’s father have divorced. The mother is trying to build a career in a new country and hopes for help from an au pair to support Olha in taking care of the children. In the best case, the au pair also becomes part of the family. Will an au pair raise an insecure Sinna into a more independent and self-confident person?

The 11th season of the au pairs will be released in its entirety at Yle Areena on Wednesday, May 8. at 20:00. On Yle TV2, the new episodes can be seen Wed–Sun, May 8–May 12. Two episodes at a time from 21:00.
