Herodes – this one role formed Sándor Nagy’s active repertoire at the Madách Theater. It’s been four years since he got a new role, and his previous plays disappeared over time. His only active role is a Jesus Christ Superstarstayed in, however, for that reason he did not see the point of staying.
It doesn’t matter that I’m in Kecskemét ten times a month, in the Game Theater fifteen times, and in Madách every six months
– the actor told Egon Rónai ATV in his show.
One hundred percent
The artist also said that although there are talented young people at the Madách Theatre, most of the old big names are no longer there. The environment had changed and he no longer felt comfortable and at home there. Rónai also told Egon that he had written a letter saying goodbye to theater director Tamás Szirtes, in which he thanked him for everything and returned his last role.
I was given many, many opportunities by teacher Szirtes, for which I will always be very grateful. I think the structure has changed there. In the last four years, I have not received a new role there at all. I recently wrote a letter to the teacher, saying goodbye and thanking him for everything
said the actor.
He later added: “I know that the problem is not with me, and I wrote this in my letter to the teacher. Every night, eight hundred people are my witness that I tried to perform one hundred percent every night […] It never happened to me that a play was successful, and I think that I carried a lot of performances on my back night after night in those 15-20 years”.
The actor said that Covid was also a big response line. Fortunately, he had savings, but not all institutions tried to help their actors equally. There were times when it was suggested that they would give a loan that would have to be played later.
According to him, the “rural naivety” that he once possessed has now largely disappeared from him. He has been treated with a lot of injustice, but even now he has more than twenty performances a month, so among other things he has to be careful not to overdo it.
