The notorious policeman who was arrested on charges of attempted extortion against a businessman in Thessaloniki was temporarily detained. In addition to the 48-year-old, former police officer, who apologized today before the 5th ordinary investigator of Thessaloniki and went to prison, two more people are accused of the same case and were given deadlines to apologize next week.
There had previously been a complaint from the businessman who is active in the field of construction and maintains a store of health interest in the area of the municipality of Thermi. According to what the complainant testified, the former police officer together with two other people – and among them another 48-year-old man – threatened him inside his shop, blackmailing him for the sum of 50,000 euros, part of which allegedly comes from the complainant’s debt to 45 years old, citizen of Albania, from their previous professional collaboration.
According to the same complaint, the second 48-year-old showed the businessman a gun and a grenade to threaten him, and for this reason he is additionally charged with aggravated possession of weapons, while the 45-year-old foreigner is charged with the act of moral turpitude in the act of the attempt extortion.
Apologizing to the investigator handling the case, the accused ex-policeman denied the act, calling the complaint false and unfounded, which he attributed to a scam. However, his claims did not convince the prosecutor and the investigator, who unanimously ruled that he should be remanded in custody. He himself, according to information, joined EL.AS. due to his involvement in fraud, while he also faced charges of drug trafficking, for which he was acquitted by a court, according to his lawyer.
