Prosecutor’s Office clarifies that the murder of a human rights activist was to steal $2,500 from a family remittance – Diario La Página – 2024-04-19 21:04:02

The Attorney General’s Office determined that 5 people are involved in the disappearance and murder of the human rights activist Rosa Elvira Floreswhose body was found in a canal in San Julián, department of Sonsonate, on March 27.

The main suspect is Edwin Antonio Cáceres, who had a romantic relationship with the victimand that he is now a fugitive from justice. Another person involved and who is already detained is Walter Daniel Melarawho was found with the activist’s phone number.

Other defendants are: Lizeth del Carmen Hernández Coreto, Karla Esmeralda Siguach García and Daniel Adonay García Mauriciowho allegedly helped Rosa Elvira’s murderer escape.

The motive for the murder would have been the theft of $2,500 that the victim went to withdraw from a bank agency in San Julián, on March 19.. The Prosecutor’s Office explained that Rosa Elvira contacted her partner, Edwin Antonio, to tell him that she was going to pick up from Santa Isabel Ishuatán to the center of San Julián, a remittance that one of her children who resides in the United States had sent her, and that That money would be used for a home that is under construction.

To carry out the errands, the activist asked for a taxi to take some purchases to her mother, and at the end of her activities she met with Edwin Antonio “who murdered her and left her body in the Los Lagartos canton, San Julián,” stated the Prosecutor’s Office.

To commit the murder, Edwin Antonio had the complicity of Walter Daniel Melara, who has already been captured. When he searched it, he found the victim’s phone, and he had no choice but to accept that he had taken charge of getting rid of the cell phone “because he had a nail.”

Rosa Elvira was reported missing by her family, friends and community leaders, and her body was found on March 27 in a cane field. Because her body had been eaten by scavengers – and in the absence of an autopsy – the cause of her death could not be determined. After the procedures ordered by the prosecutors of the case and the DNA test, the forensic experts determined that her death was a violent event (she had a deep wound in her skull) and it was confirmed that her remains were those of Rosa Elvira Flowers.

«The investigation has established that the main person responsible is Edwin Antonio Caceres, who had a romantic relationship with the victim, is a fugitive from justice. Another person involved is Walter Daniel Melara“He was already captured and the victim’s phone was found,” the Prosecutor’s Office stated.

On Wednesday the 17th of this month, the Prosecutor’s Office presented the request against Edwin Antonio Cáceres Ramírez, whom it accuses of the feminicide of Rosa Elvira Flores.
