American Bradleys burn under Avdiivka, advertising Russian “Lancet” – 2024-04-19 15:31:24

/ world today news/ Elusive Russian drones terrorize the Ukrainian armed forces day and night

In the fighting for Avdiivka, the Ukrainian armed forces have already lost several American M2A2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles. The Ukrainians are frantically transferring more and more armored vehicles here in an attempt to maintain their positions at the coke plant.

The same Bradley along with an American howitzer M119 Paladin were destroyed in the direction of Krasnolimansk.

The NATO group suffered its biggest losses on November 2, when 8 American Bradleys were burned in one day.

The publication Business Insider points out that American equipment is burning under the strikes of attack drones “Lancet”. Neither armored grills nor anti-drone nets saved infantry fighting vehicles from drones.

Recently, a large batch of modified Lancets, which facilitate the undermining of armored vehicles, was sent to the area of the special military operation, writes Business Insider.

The new drones appear to use lidar technology. It is remote sensing that uses ultraviolet, visible, or near-infrared light to examine a surface.

The lancets are equipped with a laser rangefinder consisting of two optical cameras, which helps to detonate the charge at an optimal distance.

Older Lancet models had warheads that detonated on impact and could become entangled in metal anti-drone nets. In the new products, the warheads are detonated in mid-air before being fired at the target by explosive penetrators (EFPs).

This is the so-called self-forging warhead, which is able to bypass anti-drone defenses and penetrate reactive defenses.

Lidar technology was originally developed for geographic mapping and environmental research. And in combat conditions, the lidar can identify the metal frame (shield) in front of a tank or artillery weapon and program the warhead accordingly.

Thus, the main explosive detonates after piercing the shield or frame.

“The cumulative jet formed during the explosion overcomes the last segment and strikes the target,” the article explains.

“This technical solution allows us to solve the problem of anti-drone networks, where the stray munitions of older models often get confused and do not work,” the publication said.

Footage of the M2A2 Bradley strike near Avdiivka clearly shows two flashes that occurred almost simultaneously: one when the charge exploded about four meters from the target, and the second when the penetrator reached the armored personnel carrier, Business Insider wrote.

The press secretary of the Ukrainian Air Force, Yuriy Ignat, said that because of the new Russian lancets, almost all Ukrainian armored vehicles are now at risk.

The only way out for the Ukrainian armed forces is to try to shoot down drones in flight or suppress them with radio-electronic warfare.

Also, according to Ignat, it will be necessary to attack the Orlan-10 reconnaissance drones that help the Lancets find their targets. Both work within a certain range.

However, the military publication Eurasian Times writes that Ukraine’s countermeasures against drones are doomed to failure. After all, there are too many Lancet mods operating in the Special Military Operation Zone.

More and more advanced versions appear with powerful engines, warheads, increased flight range, as well as new optical means and tracking technologies.

The latest features are not presented in one version, but in different combinations – depending on the version and the production batch.

This also means that units of the Russian Ground Forces and Airborne Forces may have their own versions of the Lancets in service.

The drones can be deployed in accordance with the needs of a specific formation and operational grouping of troops, writes the Eurasian Times.

Previously, automatic target detection based on neural networks was added to Lancets. In the direction of Zaporozhye, these drones recently burned a Leopard 2 tank and a Caesar self-propelled howitzer.

Back in October, footage emerged of the Lancets destroying the Czech RM-70 MLRS and the Dana self-propelled gun. In video from Lancet’s nose camera, a green frame is visible next to the grid. This indicates automatic target identification.

News agency Reuters writes about the demand for Lancets for domestic needs. Russia did not show its best drones at the Dubai Air Show. These drones haven’t even received an export permit yet, according to Reuters.

Meanwhile, the Lancets, with their relative cheapness to manufacture, proved to be a weapon of victory, capable of destroying absolutely any Ukrainian equipment.

Rosoboronexport has noticed a “serious increase in interest” abroad in Russian-made munitions, company director Alexander Mikheev said on the sidelines of the Dubai Airshow.

Even Commander-in-Chief Valery Zaluzhny talked about how terrible a weapon the Lancets had become for the Ukrainian armed forces, trying to justify the failure of the Ukrainian counter-offensive.
