Father and son – Marin and Stefan Dimitrovi from the affair with the arrest of the former head of the “Customs” agency Petya Bankova, have managed to build serious contacts in the judiciary as well. This was revealed by DANS chairman Plamen Tonchev during his hearing in the parliamentary inquiry committee on smuggling and corruption in Customs, reported FLASH.
“It is not by chance that the non-abortion measures are postponed. I assume that it is related to the new information,” Tonchev also said and specified that about ten magistrates – judges, prosecutors and investigators – are “working” on the investigation. The head of counterintelligence emphasized that 90% of the information known to him cannot be disclosed even to the deputies.
The term “leaking” indicates that nearly a dozen magistrates were caught in unregulated contacts with those caught for smuggling. It is probably about conversations overheard by special intelligence means via mobile devices or even personal meetings. It can also be about witness testimony, as well as the intercepted transfer of financial means and gifts.
The association of the magistrates with the names of father and son Dimitrovi in the context of the two postponed hearings on remand measures before the Sofia Court of Appeal indicates that the investigators continue to collect evidence on the scale of their criminal activity and the representatives of state institutions involved in it.
On Thursday, the appellate judges for the third time managed to rule on the measures for non-deviance of two of the participants in the criminal group – Stefan Dimitrov and Petya Bankova, who remain in custody.
The mediating role of Asen Vasilev and Boyko Rashkov?
The influence of Marin and Stefan Dimitrovi in the customs, the Ministry of the Interior, and, as it turns out, in the judiciary, required the mediation of the highest possible management level. This also explains Dimitrovi’s relationship with the former finance minister and co-chairman of “We continue the change” Asen Vassilev and with the former interior minister and PP MP Boyko Rashkov. Although Vasilev denies knowing Stefan Dimitrov, the chairman of DANS has already disclosed about documented communication between the two.
The contact was due to Dimitrovi’s desire to appoint Nedan Hadjiev as the director of ODMVR-Haskovo. The Minister of the Interior, Kalin Stoyanov, also announced that Asen Vasilev had asked him for this particular appointment.
Boyko Rashkov denied for more than a week that he was close to Marin and Stefan Dimitrovi, although it became clear from testimony that was given by the former chief secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Zhivko Kotsev, that the truth was different. Kotsev, who is already accused in the corruption scandal, had explained to the investigators that he was friends with the smugglers out of loyalty to Rashkov.
It also became known that Boyko Rashkov is even a neighbor with Stefan Dimitrov in the American College residential complex, where the two have huge palaces, the value of which is estimated at millions of BGN. In addition, Kalin Stoyanov admitted that while he was the director of GDBOP, and Boyko Rashkov was the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the minister introduced the entire leadership of the ministry and the heads of services to Marin and Stefan Dimitrovi.
From the hearing before the Appellate Court on Thursday, the information was confirmed that in recent months Rashkov had parties at his home, at which he planned to conduct a campaign to compromise Kalin Stoyanov and his subsequent removal.
Dimitrovi’s connections with magistrates, also thanks to Rashkov?
Long before Boyko Rashkov “returned” to politics through “We continue the change”, he was a long-time magistrate. Between careers in the judicial system, Rashkov was also a BSP MP for a short time. He is best known for having been the director of the National Investigation, and 25 years ago he was even elected as the chief prosecutor, but could not take office.
Rashkov left the judiciary ten years ago, when he was elected chairman of the then newly formed National Control Bureau of the SRS. The long years at the head of the investigation undoubtedly provided Rashkov with solid contacts in the court, the prosecutor’s office and the investigation. The communications intercepted by counter-intelligence, connecting Marin and Stefan Dimitrovi with the magistrates, appear to be exactly along this line. Since the Dimitrovs owe their connections in the Ministry of Internal Affairs to Rashkov, it is completely logical that through him they also acquired specific acquaintances in the judiciary.
The revelation of the DANS chairman means that counterintelligence is holding at least ten judges, prosecutors and investigators “at gunpoint” for their links to the accusation of Haskovli smugglers. There is no doubt that certain lawyers who have close political contacts are also involved in the scheme. Gathering evidence on this new thread of the corruption network may show that father and son Dimitrovi were not just “gray cardinals” at the top of the customs and the Ministry of the Interior, but even the lobbyists of “We continue the change” in the judicial system.
