A 62-year-old man had a large tumor removed from his face and neck after 16 years of growth. The patient, named only as Tim, from Scottsdale (Arizona, USA), lived with the tumor which weighed 2.5 kilos. The information was published by Extra.
The large mass started out as a “small pimple near the ear.” Tim said the “pimple” continued to grow over the years, quickly changing from a golf ball to a tennis ball.
Eventually, it grew so large that it began to press on his ear, jaw, neck and throat. Because of its size, the tumor obscured Tim’s face.
Tim could only eat with the left side of his mouth and began to eat food standing up, otherwise the tumor would hit the table and hit the food. The case was recorded by the channel TLC.
The complex operation, performed by general surgeon Ryan Osborne and plastic surgeon Jason Hamilton, from Los Angeles (California), lasted five hours.
The tumor was completely benign, with no signs of cancer. The results showed that the growth was “consistent with an abnormal parotid tumor called a pleomorphic adenoma.”
Seven weeks after surgery, Tim was able to shave his entire face for the first time in 16 years.
“Since the operation, I feel lighter. I have not had any pain. It was much easier than I expected. It is wonderful. When the tumor was there, damn, that thing was ugly. It’s a good thing, it’s gone. Sixteen years was enough time.
