National records fall at start of National Weightlifting Championship – Daily The Page – 2024-04-19 01:37:22

The Salvadoran Weightlifting Federation (Fedepesas) held the first of four dates of the 2024 National Championship this weekend and had a total of 63 competitors, 30 women and 33 men, divided into 20 categories.

Roberto Guerra, technical manager of Fedepesas, expressed that this first date is also relevant to identify the best local athletes for international competitions this year.

“This is the first of four dates of the national championship. The last date will be an absolute, in which the best of the entire year will be awarded. These events also help us identify and evaluate prospects for the national team,” said the manager.

Regarding the scope of the call for the first date of the championship, the manager assured that the participants came from the four areas of the country and that excites them, since they hope that the number of participants will grow on the next dates.

“We have athletes from Ahuachapán, Chalchuapa, Santa Ana, Sensuntepeque, Santa Rosa de Lima, San Vicente, San Salvador and two private gyms. We hope to have all of them and more in the coming dates,” said Guerra.

Among the results of the long weekend, athletes who set new national records stand out. Such is the case of Kimberly Treminio, from Santa Rosa de Lima, who set a new youth record in the start of the 71 kilogram category by lifting 56 kilos. In addition, Treminio added 70 in the clean and jerk, leaving her with a total of 126 kilos, and first place in her division.

Yuly Mendoza, from Chalatenango, broke the junior national records in the snatch, clean and jerk and total in the 49 kilogram category. The Chalateca made 60 kilos in the snatch, 73 kilos in the clean and jerk and 133 in the cumulative.

Axel Jovel, from San Vicente, set a new youth record in the start of the 67 kilogram category by lifting 110 kilos, and although he finished in third place in his division, as he competed with older athletes, he now has a national record in his palmares.

Jimmy de Paz, from San Vicente, also set new youth national records in snatch, clean and jerk and total, but in the 73 kilogram category. De Paz registered 95 kilos in the snatch, 115 in the clean and jerk and 210 in the accumulated weight, which earned him second place in his category. First place went to Ramón Cruz, from Santa Rosa de Lima, with 250 in total.
