Israel Prime Minister Netanyahu Defies Western Calls for Restraint on Iran Retaliation

Jakarta

Prime Minister (PM) Israel Benjamin Netanyahu ignored calls from western countries for Tel Aviv to refrain from retaliating against attacks from Tehran. Netanyahu stressed that his country would make its own decisions on how to respond to an Iranian attack.

Reported by Reuters and the Associated Press, Thursday (18/4/2024), Israel vowed to respond to Iranian air strikes, but without saying when or how. This has warned the Middle East region that they will be involved after months of being covered in the Gaza war.

Relatives Israel has urged the Jewish state to refrain from any actions that could have a negative impact.

The United States (US), the European Union and G7 industrialized member countries even announced plans to consider tougher sanctions against Iran. This move is believed to be aimed at appeasement and persuading Israel to abandon plans of retaliation against Iran.

The call for a ban from Western countries was strengthened by the visit of British Foreign Minister David Cameron and German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock to Israel on Wednesday (17/4) local time.

Netanyahu met the two foreign ministers who came to visit Israel and expressed his gratitude for the support of both countries.
