Bayer Leverkusen Sets Record with 44-Game Unbeaten Streak in European Competitions

TASS, April 18. The German football club Bayer Leverkusen played a 1:1 draw with English West Ham in the second stage of the final stage of the Europa League.

Based on the results of two meetings, Bayer advanced to the semi-finals. In the first game, the team from Germany won (2:1). At the next stage, the new German champion will face Roma, who was involved in the battle with another Italian club, Milan (1:0, 2:1).

The Leverkusen club extended their unbeaten streak to 44 games, the team is unbeaten this season – 38 wins and 6 draws in all competitions. Bayer has surpassed Italian Juventus’ record for the longest unbeaten streak in multiple competitions among clubs from Europe’s top 5 leagues in the 21st century. In the 2011/12 season, Juventus did not concede to their opponents for 43 meetings.

During the season, Bayer became the champion of Germany for the first time before, the team had won silver medals in the national championship five times in their 120-year history. The club will also play in the German Cup final. If they perform successfully in the remaining games of the season, Bayer can complete the treble – winning the league, the cup and the European cup.

The current Europa League winner is the Spanish Sevilla. The final of the current draw will take place on May 22nd in Dublin. On February 28, 2022, the Union of European Football Associations and the International Football Federation banned Russian clubs and national teams from participating in international competitions.
