The deputy head of Rhône submits a bill to the National Assembly so that the mayors of the city sit there.

If the special status of Greater Lyon is disturbing, it is because it affects the voting method of metropolitan councilors: in 2020, they were elected for the first time by universal suffrage. As a result the number of sitting mayors of the metropolis was limited to 21 out of 59.

An activity which, for BP Horizons, excludes “the cities the decision-making apparatus” and “means to paralyze the activity of the Metropolis”. Already in May 2021, as the elected official recalls in his press release, 44 mayors had signed forum in the JDD asking “to stop the damage”.

Proposal also submitted to the Senate

With this proposal, the deputy who left his mandate as a metropolitan councilor in December to keep only those of the deputy and mayor of Rillieux-la-Pape, under the law on the collection of orders, as that’s the intention. “Bring back Mayors to their most legitimate right: that they are all represented within the metropolitan assembly and that they take full part in decisions that pertain to their own area. “

The same bill, already announced in November, is being submitted to the Senate by Senator LR Etienne Blanc. 49 of the 59 mayors of the capital at the time have shown their support for the approach.
