Jakarta –
Qatar national team peak Group A standings for the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup to qualify for the quarter-finals. Indonesia is in the second position.
Qatar scored a second surprise victory when they met Jordan at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium, Thursday afternoon (18/4/2024) WIB. Taking the lead through Abdulla Al Yazidi’s goal in the 40th minute, Qatar conceded Aref Al Haj’s penalty five minutes after the restart.
Qatar finally scored their second goal in the 13th minute of second-half injury time through Mohammad Al Mannai to secure a 2-1 victory.
With three points to spare, Qatar are firmly on top of Group A with perfect scores from two matches. The team coached by Ilidio Vale qualified for the round of 16 as it was impossible for Jordan to overtake Jordan in third place by one point.
With one match remaining, there will be fierce competition for the sole remaining ticket from Group A. Indonesia is now in pole position as it already has three points in second place in the standings.
This resulted in a 1-0 victory over Australia through Komang Teguh’s goal in the 45th minute. Indonesia has a goal difference of less than one as they scored one goal and conceded two.
Australia is in the bottom position with one point and a goal difference of less than one, as it has not scored a single goal. Indonesia will “kill each other” with Jordan in the final match on April 21 to compete for tickets to the top 16.
Meanwhile, Australia also need to beat Qatar to have a chance of qualifying, while they hope Indonesia loses to Jordan.
