Anger in Nisyros: A parent who reported the sexual abuse of his child is threatened with deportation – 2024-04-18 18:45:13

In the unthinkable complaint that a parent (immigrant) who reported to the Police the sexual abuse of his minor child by another resident of the island, was arrested and is at risk of deportation as he does not have the legal documents, the residents and agencies of the island proceeded.

In fact, according to vimatisko.gr, on Tuesday they held a protest rally outside AT Nisyrou demanding “the absolute protection of every mother/father who is not afraid to turn to the authorities in order to protect his/her children, the children of all of us”.

“The (…) resident of our island, after making a complaint regarding an insult to the sexual dignity of his ten-year-old child, has since been detained by the authorities, as he lacks legal documents. In fact, we learned that he is at risk of immediate deportation”, note the residents of Nisyros, noting even that “the alleged abuser” left the island unmolested.

In addition, the residents of Nisyros calling his prosecution “vindictive and abusive” demand “justice and the immediate return of the father to his family, who is being tried”.

The letter of protest from residents of Nisyros in detail:

“Today, April 16, 2024, outside the Nisyros Police Station we gathered worried and angry residents and representatives of the island’s agencies.

Specifically, the (…) resident of our island, after making a complaint regarding an insult to the sexual dignity of his ten-year-old child, has been detained by the authorities since then, as he lacks legal documents. In fact, we learned that he is at risk of immediate deportation.

WE DEMAND the absolute protection of every mother/father who is NOT AFRAID to turn to the authorities in order to protect his/her children, the children of all of us!

For the island and our society it is a matter of moral principle and not legal order. We ask that the father who made the complaint receive protection as he sets an example for our society, which can encourage more people to speak up.

We invite you to consider the terrible consequences that the father’s detention is already having on the psyche of his minor child and the stress that is hanging over the family with his eventual deportation.

We consider this specific prosecution vindictive and abusive. His address on our island is known, he has a family and he will not leave unmolested like the alleged abuser did.

We ask for justice and the immediate return of the father to his family, who is being tried.”
