The Institute of Astrophysics of the Technology and Research Foundation (IA-ITE) is organizing an exciting three-day astronomy event in Ioannina, within the framework of the DSPACE (Discovery Space) program funded by the Hellenic Research and Innovation Foundation (EL.ID.EK.).
All the activities of the three days will take place at the 9th Experimental Primary School for Intercultural Education of Ioannina, in collaboration with the 7th Kindergarten of Ioannina, which is a hub of DSPACE, the Councilor for Kindergarten Education of the Province of Ioannina, Konstantina Tallou, and under the auspices of the Municipality of Ioannina .
The three days of Astronomy activities will take place on April 11, 12 and 13, 2024, at the above school. During the first two days, two free identical trainings for teachers are planned, with the theme “Introducing Astronomy and Telescopes into Education”, trying to introduce one of the oldest sciences into the modern school. These trainings will provide participants with the opportunity to learn some basic elements of Astronomy, see the process of requesting astronomical observations from the Skinaka Observatory, and see an example of the application of such observations in the classroom.
The highlight of the three days will be the free activities open to the general public on April 13. Visitors will be able to enjoy screenings of the mobile planetarium “Planetarium on the Go”, which will offer an exciting experience of traveling through the universe. In addition, there will be an observation of the Sun with a solar telescope of the Institute of Astrophysics and the University of Crete and of the night sky, with corresponding telescopes from the “Planetarium on the Go”, the Music School of Ioannina “Nikolaos Doumbas”, as well as the 7th Kindergarten of Ioannina, weather permitting, of course, making the corresponding sky tour by the Institute of Astrophysics and its partners, from the “PAGRETION” training school (DSPACE hub) and the Regional Directorate of Education of Crete.
This three days of astronomy activities is a unique opportunity for all sky lovers, regardless of age, to take an “astronomical journey” and live an unforgettable experience.
