At 75 years old, Pepe de Mos, a retired sacristan in the parish of Tameiga and a piper since he was 9, will make his debut as an actor. And he does it with a star roledesigned by and for him, and produced by his grandson, Unai Martínez, a student at the University of Edinburgh Vigo School of Image and Sound (EISV). “Every three months we have to do a play and I wanted to propose something about Galician folklore but that was not normal,” explained Unai, a student in the first Audiovisual Production course, about germ the video clip “Tras os Montes”, whose main character is the septuagenarian from Mosg.
In the video clip, which lasts a while five minutes, Pepe shares a plane with rapper Vigo Tesky. The two will be grandfather and grandson in fiction, and together they will provide voice and music to the piece. Tesky will play a young man who lives in Barcelona, and has to return to Galicia to live with his grandfather, who will be played by Pepe. Although he is not passionate about the idea, he has to overcome his prejudices to love everything that includes Galician culture, represented, above all , in the figure of his grandfather. There will be three minutes of song and two minutes of script.
“He’s having a great time,” said the grandson
The theme that gives meaning to the video clip is a a mix of traditional music and rap, two styles that join the Institute of Advanced Galician Music. Pepe provides instrumental music and pipe playing experience for almost 70 years; while Tesky He deals with the rap lyrics.

Apart from the musical aspect, in which Pepe moves like a fish in water, to record the video clip the piper had to learn a script, and that is what cost him the most work. “At my age, memory doesn’t work as it used to,” says Pepe, admitting that he has felt several nerves, but that his grandson’s campaign has been “fantastic.” “He’s having a good time,” Unai confirms.
Filming lasted three days. The first one happened at Pepe’s own house and the other two at the Pazo de Mos. “The beauty of the Pazo suits us perfectly,” says Unai, the producer of the video clip with Hugo Comojo. About 50 people participated in the filming, including extras and other students from each cycle of the School Image and Sound Vigo, who was in charge of other technical issues, such as sound, lighting, production or direction. Three days of non-stop that have left Pepe a little tired, and in which they even had a visit from the mayor of Mos, Nidia Arévalo, the Councilor for Culture, Sara Cebreiro, and the mayor of the parish of Tameiga, Feli Rodriguez.
The final product will be released on June 14 and Unai and Hugo’s aim is to capture the true essence of Galician culture and present it in a new and modern way. Tras os Montes will be a fusion of traditional elements with an urban style vibe, and will provide a visual experience that will connect with audiences of all ages and backgrounds,” the producers promise.
