AMLO: the Afore are untouchable; the reform will not affect workers

Mexico City. The legal reform regarding pensions is not intended to harm workers, we are not the same as the looters of beforestated President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, on the contrary, he pointed out that it is intended to create a fund to finance the pensions of those who were affected by the modifications on the matter approved at the time by Ernesto Zedillo and Felipe Calderón, who reduced substantially the perceptions of retirees.

The individual Afore accounts are untouchable. We have the responsibility to defend workers’ pensions. This reform is not to harm them, it is to improve the situation of those who are going to retire, so that they receive more.

He stressed that even though his government has already promoted two reforms in this area, it is still not enough to compensate for the damage caused by the changes in neoliberal governments.

López Obrador highlighted that one of the central objectives is for the companies that control the retirement accounts to actually return the money of the unclaimed ones to form the new pension fund, because currently, although it is already in the law, in the facts they fail to comply.

He estimated that of the 40 billion pesos that are in this condition, only one billion have been returned.

He pointed out that this initiative is associated with the proposal for constitutional modification that he has already sent to Congress in order to improve the perceptions of those who are going to retire because, he cited as an example, a worker who retired with a salary of 10 thousand pesos, at the time If he collected his retirement he would not receive more than 3 thousand pesos.

In this six-year term, with the endorsement of business leaders, it was approved to increase the contributions of the employer sector to the workers’ accounts and another reform was promoted that reduced the commissions charged by the Afore. Many people who were linked to these companies are the ones who are questioning the current reform, pointing out that the intention is to affect workers. One of those who criticizes that this compensatory fund that we are creating was not going to be useful is precisely the one who previously managed the Afore thing.

As a result of the reduction in the collection of commissions from workers, they have obtained around 120 billion pesos as a whole, resources that previously remained with the Afore.

The president estimated We are going to end the year with savings of 150 billion pesos for workers’ funds.

He recalled that another source of financing for the fund that is intended to be created are the profits of public companies operated by the armed forces.

“In bad faith, the experts who don’t like us say: ‘When are there going to be profits in Mexicana, in the Mayan Train?’ Well, yes, there are going to be profits, not in the short term, because any company requires time. to consolidate and reach a point of balance,” he concluded.
