The first lady of Bulgarian jazz, Kamelia Todorova, will celebrate her birthday in the Jazz FM radio studio, and the big gift will be for the listeners.
On January 21, they’ll hear never-before-seen concert performances of hers, including with the legendary Stan Goetz Orchestra from the Bombay Festival, when she swings and improvises on Stevie Wonder’s You Are The Sunshine Of My Life. The audience’s ovation then was a recognition of the world level of Bulgarian jazz at the beginning of the 80s of the last century. Kamelia Todorova will present a live performance of the song with which she won the Grand Prize at the Dresden Jazz Festival, as well as two of her recordings of FSB hits, with which she appeared at the Vocal Competition in Klagenfurt, Austria, in 1982. her recordings as a vocalist of Svetozar Rusinov’s Dixieland. In the Jazz FM studio, Svetoslav Nikolov will talk to the singer in the program “Jazz Day” after 10:30 a.m.
A day later, Kamelia Todorova will leave for Vienna, where on January 23 she will sing in the cult jazz club “Porgy & Bess”, together with Antoni Donchev, Georgi Donchev and Dimitar Semov. Alexander Vladigerov and Bozhidar Sotirov, emblematic of the Austrian jazz scene, will join the event as special guests. Kemi was one of the stars of Jazz FM’s eighth birthday concert last September when she captivated the audience with some elegant and very stylish performances of her jazz repertoire.
