The Iranian Revolutionary Guard He stated this Sunday that launched an attack with dozens of missiles and drones against Israel in response to bombing against the Iranian consulate in Syria.
“In response to numerous Israeli crimes, including the attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, and the assassination of several commanders and military advisors of our country in Syria, the aerospace force of the Revolutionary Guard has attacked certain targets in the occupied territories with the launching of dozens of missiles and drones”indicated the elite military body in a statement collected by the state agency IRNA.
The Revolutionary Guard described the operation “as part of the punishment of that illegitimate and criminal regime” in reference to Israel, and assured that the attack will be praised by “the free peoples of the world.”
Before the Iranian announcement, The Israeli Army confirmed the launch of “dozens of drones” from Iran towards Israelbut warned that it will take “several hours” to reach the country and that the Israeli Air Force is tracking them in order to intercept them.
Damascus
The attack comes in retaliation for the bombing of the consulate in Damascus on April 1, in which six Syrians and seven members of the Revolutionary Guard were killed, and for which Tehran accused Tel Aviv.
Among the dead was the leader of its Quds Force branch for Syria and Lebanon, Brigadier General Mohamed Reza Zahedi.
Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, has repeatedly insisted in recent weeks that “the Zionist regime must be and will be punished,” threats that have been repeated by virtually every senior official in the country following the attack in Damascus. EFE
