Yulimar Rojas cancels participation in Paris 2024 due to injury

Caracas. Olympic athletics champion Yulimar Rojas announced this Friday that she will not participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games after suffering an injury to her left Achilles tendon.

“I want to inform you that I will not be able to participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. With great pain and sadness I want to tell you that while I was training when I fell on the descent from a jump I had intense pain that was diagnosed as an injury to the left Achilles tendon. “Rojas, 28, said in a statement on Instagram.

“My heart is broken and I feel so sad that I want to apologize for not being able to represent them in Paris 2024,” continued Rojas, considered the queen of the triple jump.

The 28-year-old multiple world champion indicated that she underwent surgery on Thursday at a clinic in Madrid.

Rojas had not competed since September of last year when he won his third consecutive world championship and the seventh of his career. In March he was absent from the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Glasgow.

“They have been very complex hours in which I have questioned myself and analyzed why this happened,” he reflected. “I understand that in God’s designs we are only an instrument of his will.”

Rojas’ loss is sensitive for the Venezuelan delegation because she is their best Olympic athlete in recent years.

In addition to being the best Venezuelan athlete, Rojas was one of the great figures of Latin American sports in Paris 2024.

Owner of the best world record, 15.35 meters, Rojas aspired to become the first woman to break the 16-meter barrier in the triple jump. His world record of 15.74, set indoors on March 20, 2022, supports that goal.

“Today I feel very emotionally affected by not being able to represent them, the desire to defend my Olympic title excited me enormously but today I have to stop, understand this, recover and come back with great strength to continue flying together,” said the triple jumper.

On July 5, 2023, with a jump of 15.16, Rojas sealed his Olympic ticket to Paris 2024 and won the gold medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador-2023.
