Last year, Pilsen’s micromobility study approved by the city recommended a total of 700 means of shared micromobility. Now the city wants to start with 200 pieces. The study recommended including e-scooters in the mix of shared bikes, which the city management does not yet want to support:
“If the future operator shows interest in it, we will allow electric scooters to be included in the fleet of loaned vehicles, but only in a very limited number in a maximum ratio of 2:5 in favor of bikes, the eventual rental of electric scooters would not be financially subsidized by the city, i.e. no public minutes would be free. In addition, shared e-scooters would have to have a speed limiter to a limit of 15 km/h, mandatory sound signaling, and the city would use GPS localization to establish zones where scooters should not be used at all, and their use would also be prohibited at night. Tolar (STAN) listed the basic conditions.
The selection procedure for shared funds is provided by the Administration of the Public Property of the City of Pilsen, the deadline for applications is May 10. The service could start operating from July 1, 2024. The city is counting on this in its budget with a maximum amount of 5 million crowns per year.
A system of 80 shared bikes has been operating in Pilsen for several years kolemplzne.cz, which is run by a non-profit organization of the same name. In the past, the city contributed to it several times in the form of a subsidy, especially for the renewal of the bike park. Bicycles are parked in the city, but the system does not have dedicated parking spaces.
