A fire broke out in a house on Pieter van der Doesstraat in De Baarsjes around 11 p.m. Many fire engines were called. The fire is now under control.
It involved a fire on the third floor and the attic. A few minutes after the first report, the fire brigade scaled up to ‘medium fire’ and a minute later to ‘major fire’.

Initially the fire spread, as was clearly visible on videos from bystanders. Bangs were also heard. According to a fire brigade spokesperson, this is probably because there were fireworks (consumer fireworks) in the home. The fire brigade was able to quickly ensure that there were hardly any flames visible from outside.
A resident of the apartment in question had to be taken to hospital due to smoke inhalation. Three surrounding apartments were evacuated.

At around 11:45 p.m., the fire brigade reported that the fire was under control. This means that the fire is no longer spreading, but the fire brigade will still have to extinguish it for some time. “With such an attic you really want to be on the safe side, that it is no longer brewing anywhere. And I can still see smoke coming from the roof,” the fire brigade spokesperson said just before midnight.
The cause of the fire is not yet known. Due to the smoke and water damage, the apartment is most likely uninhabitable for the time being. The situation with the evacuated surrounding apartments remains to be seen later.
