Argentine soccer player Lionel Messi was involved in an altercation in the locker room during Inter Miami’s last game, showing an arrogant attitude that has already brought him problems on other occasions.
Contrary to soccer stars such as the Brazilian legend Pelé, or the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi has never been characterized by his simplicity, and on other occasions he has been pointed out for his rude or pedantic attitude towards the public and other players.
Now it was the technical assistant of the Rayados del Monterrey, Nicolás Sánchez, who accused Lionel Messi of putting his fist next to his face at the end of the match between his team and Inter Miami, corresponding to the first leg of the quarterfinals of the Concacaf Champions Cup.
According to Sánchez, after playing the first 90 minutes, the Argentine star went to face the coaching staff of the Liga MX team, upset with his own team’s defeat.
Messi was upset by the statements of Fernando Ortiz, who implied that the arbitration favored Inter because of what Messi’s figure means.
This is an accusation that has haunted the Argentine and his national team for years, since even in the last World Cup they were awarded penalties in all their games, which many pointed out as the basis of their “championship.”
“Messi wanted to fight me. I don’t think he wanted to hit me because if he hadn’t hit me because he had me an centimeter away, he put his fist next to my face. I think he was looking for my reaction more than hitting me,” declared Nico Sánchez for Fox Sports Radio.
The former soccer player revealed that, at the end of the match, he and his team went down to the locker room area and there he saw Messi insulting the Guatemalan referee Walter López, furious at the royals’ 2-1 victory.
“If we do that, they will throw us all out,” said Sánchez.
On the other hand, he indicated that Messi was not the only arrogant one, since his technical coach, Gerardo ‘El Tata’ Martino, also insulted him and picked a fight with him.
“’Tata’ Martino who was entering the locker room turned around, started telling me everything and Messi appeared and wanted to eat me raw. The security approached me, obviously the security didn’t touch me because I didn’t react, I didn’t even look at him, but the ‘dwarf’ (Messi) was possessed, he had the face of the devil and he put his fist at my side,” he added.
The Mexican stressed that both, as important football figures, are protected, and that although it is likely not the first time they have done something like this, it is unlikely that evidence will come to light.
“And ‘Tata’ Martino is a poor idiot. ‘Tata’ Martino did have him in front of him and ‘Tata’ told me, ‘you’re going to cry so much’… a fool… I never responded, I never responded to anyone. They probably deleted all the videos because the videos leave them in a very bad light, because what they did is very serious, but hey, it’s part of the show,” he said with resignation.
“What they clearly want to do is dirty and muddy the field and that was what I wanted to avoid or expose them to and that was why everything was put together, but there was no ‘pineapple’, there was no fight, pure discussion and pure pressure, nothing more,” he added.
Annoyed, he pointed out that both Argentines were seeking to provoke him, because perhaps they wanted to dirty his victory and achieve consequences, such as annulling the result of the match.
“For me it was that they were angry and were looking for us to send some baton, but nothing happened, they were the ones who looked bad. That’s why no video or anything is going to come out because they are the ones who look bad,” she concluded.
