Mexicali, BC. The Redes Choir of the State Music System of the Ministry of Culture performed for the first time at the Sing! Festival. organized by the Choral Consortium of San Diego in California, United States.
At the Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center, 31 Tijuana choreographers performed, directed by Dzaya Castillo and accompanied on piano by Iván Mares.
Also participating in this Festival were the Meraki Women’s Choir directed by Daria Abreu and the Choir of the Contemporary Music Degree of the Musical Arts Center of Tijuana under the direction of Ibis Laurel.
To the delight of those attending the San Diego Arts Center, the Redes Choir shared the stage in the first concert with the San Diego Chinese Choral Society, the Cuyamaca College Choir, the San Diego Festival Chorus and Sorelle San Diego.
The second concert titled “Crossing Voices Community Choirs from Tijuana and San Diego” was held at the UC San Diego Park and Market in which the Meraki Women’s Choir, Mi Universidad Choir, Las Voces del Mariachi from City Heights Music School and The First participated. UU Chalice Choir.
At the end of each concert, the choirs joined together in a joint performance that evidenced the spirit of unity that characterizes the choral community.
The performances that stood out were “When we are singing”, arranged by Padworskiy, and “Courage” by Sandra Howard.
These concerts represent the opportunity for a cultural and musical exchange between Baja California and San Diego, as well as a milestone in the history of the San Diego Sings! Choral Festival, by including the Redes de Baja California Choir.
