Roberto Cavalli was born in 1940 in Florence.

His grandfather Giuseppe Rossi was an artist who exhibited his works in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. The stylist’s father, Giorgio, was shot in 1944 by the Wehrmacht near Arezzo in Tuscany.

Cavalli started working in the fashion world in the 1970s. He patented, among other things, a technique for creating prints on leather, which he debuted in Paris. There he also presented his first collection shortly thereafter. He also became famous for patchworks made of various materials.

He opened his first boutique in Saint-Tropez, France, in 1974. Two years later, he presented the collection in New York.

The fashion house he founded sold clothes for women and men, perfumes, and luxury accessories.

The designer left behind six children. His sixth son, whose name is Roberto Cavalli, was born a year ago.
