At the request of the prosecutor’s office, the court issued decisions on the temporary arrest of the suspects. They are currently wanted on arrest warrants. The investigation is extended until December 31, 2024.

“Since the beginning of the investigation, several hundred opinions of experts in various specialties have been obtained. A very large amount of electronic data has also been collected, which is still being analyzed. In addition, over 1,000 witnesses have been interviewed. The case files currently number nearly 1,900 volumes“- we read in a statement from the National Prosecutor’s Office.

It was indicated that the purpose of the investigation team was to determine the actual causes and course of the disaster, including the persons responsible for causing it. “After establishing the facts, prosecutors will be tasked with bringing criminally responsible the perpetrators of the disaster,” it was reported.

Meeting with the victims

In addition, the National Prosecutor’s Office has planned for April 25, 2024 meeting with injured persons and their representatives.

“The purpose of the meeting is to provide the injured parties and their representatives with comprehensive information on the course of the investigation, procedural activities performed so far, activities that have not been completed due to the lack of cooperation on the part of the Russian Federation, findings made at the current stage of the investigation, as well as planned activities aimed at ending proceedings. During the meeting, comprehensive information will also be presented on the course of cooperation between the Investigative Team and the Subcommittee of the Ministry of National Defense for the re-examination of the air accident of the TU-154 plane near Smolensk, working in the years 2016-2023. People participating in the meeting will be able to ask questions to the prosecutors conducting the proceedings,” – says prosecutor Przemysław Nowak, press spokesman for the National Prosecutor’s Office.
