He Christian Social Party (PSC) shared a statement on April 8, 2024 in which it requested the governments of Ecuador and Mexico to resolve as soon as possible the diplomatic impasse that occurred after the invasion of the Quito Embassy and the capture of the former vice president. Jorge Glas.
He also questioned Andrés Manuel López Obradorpresident of Mexico, who gave his opinion on the last Ecuadorian early elections of 2023, pretending to ignore the transparency of the elections.
According to PSC“this violated the principle of non-intervention in the internal affairs of another country enshrined in International Law.”
He reaffirmed that Glas has been prosecuted and sentenced by the justice of Ecuador. Therefore, neither the status of guest nor diplomatic asylum could be granted to him. “Embassies must not be used in a manner incompatible with the functions of the mission, as established in the respective Convention.”
Ecuavisa reports that, in this context, the Mexican Government has violated the Convention on Caracas Diplomatic Asylum (1954). Although legally it corresponds to that granted without the Mexican Government having proven the apparent political persecution, violating the nature and foundations of the aforementioned Convention.
“We firmly condemn this and it also creates unacceptable disrespect in the administration of Ecuadorian justice.”
