The capital team managed to win in overtime against Brujos de Izalco with a final score of 62-68, in an exciting duel held at the Salvador Mariona Stadium and corresponding to the 2024 Apertura Tournament Tigo Sports Cup of the Major Basketball League (LMB).
The local fans did not stop cheering for their team, hoping for a victory that would allow them to climb up the standings. However, San Salvador had other plans after having lost undefeated the previous day against Metapán. With this victory, the capitalians remain firmly at the top of the tournament with 17 points.
On the other hand, Brujos de Izalco suffered its fourth consecutive defeat, leaving it in seventh position in the table with 11 points. Despite the support of their fans, they were unable to overcome the dominance and effectiveness of the visiting team.
The figure of the capital team was the Puerto Rican Jeremy Agosto who contributed with 22 points, eight rebounds and five assists, and also had perfect effectiveness in the seven shifts he had from the penalty line. Despite the final effort of Brujos, San Salvador secured 10 points in over time thanks to the skill of Agosto, Barahona and Martín Ramos, against the 4 points of the locals to seal the final victory 62-68.
For Brujos, the performance of Teodoro Romero stood out, completing a double-double of 13 points, 22 rebounds and 4 blocks, establishing himself as the best of the local team. Julio Crespín and Roberto Shente contributed 11 more points each.
The standings are led by San Salvador with 17 points, closely followed by Santa Ana, Metapán and Salvadoreños, who have 14 and with one game less. Santa Tecla is fifth, with 13 points, followed by Cojute and Fantasmas, who have 11. While Fantasmas and Lobos accumulate 10 units, and Santiagueño is last with 9.
