Love and passion, war and pain, social and collective, victory and defeat. These are the themes that are addressed in the verses, «strictly in hendecasyllables », yes Vittorio Di Ruocco who was not born as a poet – he obtained a degree in Chemistry and is director of the Regional Agency for Environmental Protection of Campania – but who approaches the world of opera «in adulthood when they invited me to participate in a literary competition». From there, however, a climb began which in a short time brought the poet of Pontecagnano Faiano to forge ahead so much so that since 2019 he has started winning hundreds of awards: «I attended – explains Vittorio – in numerous national and international literary competitions. For poetry I ranked 320 times on the podium: 150 times in first place, 112 times in second and 58 times in third. Also for poetry I have received over 210 awards outside the podium and in my palmares I can also boast of having received four lifetime achievement awards from as many cultural associations and an award of merit from the Municipality of Pontecagnano Faiano”.
To these prizes, however, we must add the one he will have to collect next Monday Napoli inside the magnificent and historic location of the Maschio Angioino. In fact Vittorio Di Ruocco has conquered the “Giovanni Bovio” recognition now in its sixth edition and which rewards works of visual art, narrative and poetry. Di Ruocco naturally triumphed in the unpublished poetry section, «although I don’t disdain narrative – reveals – given that I also have two novels to my credit “The Tree of Miracles” ed. Homo Scrivens) and “The Lover of Dionysus” (ed. Homo Scrivens)», with the composition entitled “Forgive us Lord of forgiveness”. «It is a lyric – underlines Di Ruocco – which is found in the collection “The dance of souls” (Giuliano Ladolfi Editore), and which I wanted to dedicate to the martyrs of Bushing in Ukraine. It is a reflection of a man personally involved in this war who, after having seen the contours of the tragedy, understands that the insurmountable has been overcome as I write in the last verse “forgive us Lord of forgiveness / if mercy does not touch us / now that the wounds are graves / full of piled up corpses / of souls suddenly drowned / in the black sea of cruelty”».
Di Ruocco, however, certainly doesn’t stop and already plans to publish his eighth collection of lyrics: «It will come out next summer because I’m finishing it“, he claims. In fact, they have already been published: “My hands in the sky” (ed. The inkwell), “The colors of the heart” (ed. Pandemos), “Nothingness and Infinity” (ed. Graus), “The fate of a poet” (ed. Young Holden), “Blindness” (ed. Montedit), “The winter that blazes” (ed. Carta e Penna) and “The dance of souls”. «My passion for poetry, inherited from the greats like Neruda, Mount them e Apollinaire it never stops. – concludes Di Ruocco – It’s like a cyclone that attacks you and makes you put emotions on paper. So every award I receive is an honor but always and only a starting point to continue to keep the fire of writing in verse burning.».
