Thursday April 11, on the sidelines of the plenary session held at the Regional Council of Burgundy-Franche-Comté in Dijon, the EELV elected officials of Burgundy and Franche-Comté demonstrated in front of the Regional Council building. They denounced “the chasm” represented by the cost of Dole-Tavaux airport.

They gathered, with a few accessories to get their message across: a planet earth and an inflatable plane, and slogans hostile to the continued financing of the operation of Dole-Tavaux airport.

The slogans carried by EELV elected officials criticize the expenses accumulated for the operation of Dole-Tavaux airport.
On March 8, a delegation went to the airport to formalize aid to the Jura department for the management and development of this infrastructure. The delegation was composed of the President of the Dijon metropolis Fraçois Rebsamen, the president of the Departmental Council of Côte-d’Or, François Sauvadet, the president of the Departmental Council of Sâone-et-Loire, André Accary, and the President of the agglomeration community of Grand Dole, Jean-Pascal Fichère.
The demonstrators diverted the names of these speakers in a humorous way for this demonstration.
Dominique Cornet, general secretary of the Ecologists of Burgundy, talks about the action of the day: “we want to do a humorous action to remind people of the abyss that this airport is and the negative consequences on the climate.”
On March 8, elected officials raised the question of the region’s isolation. Dominique Cornet responds: “there are other solutions that need to be developed on public transport, there are other airports that are accessible. The problem is that this airport is not profitable, we cannot continue to finance this type of tool.”
But the airport remains in use and its location makes it convenient for residents of the Region. Dominique Cornet is categorical: “People like it, that’s not a reason, there are a lot of things that people like but which turn out to be negative, harmful. We don’t want to persist indefinitely on this type of tool.”
In the plenary session of the Regional Council, Marie-Guite Dufay will propose the withdrawal of the airport subsidy to this airport, raising the question of the lack of economic benefits that it brings for the region.
An important direction, welcomed by elected environmentalists: “Ms Dufay defends what we are asking, it is a very good thing, we cannot target investments on this type of tool, it is better to put them for example on public transport.”

For the regional secretary of Europe-Ecologie-Les Verts de Franche-Comté, Dominique Voynet, it is the same observation. Environmentalists announce that “the rebirth of Dijon-Longvic airport cost 25 million euros, the survival of Dole-Tavaux has already swallowed up 38 million euros since 2008.”
The question of financing is essential for Dominique Voynet: “a month ago, major elected officials demonstrated in Tavaux to provide their support, they were careful not to talk about money. For several years, the sums that have been deposited in loss. Low-cost flights, operated by a low-cost airline which exploits its employees. While communities complain of no longer having the means for their compulsory skills, social assistance for children, maintenance roads, fire fighting etc., it seems completely unreasonable to us to maintain and keep this airport at arm’s length.”
The regional secretary of EELV Franche-Comté criticizes the term of opening up put forward by elected officials on March 8: “We will be told that some people use it, they would be stupid not to use it, because it is there. But there are too few of them to make it profitable, it must still be said that the ridiculous sentences which have been pronounced by certain major elected officials, who dare to speak of ‘opening up’ of Dijon – Dijon which is 1h30 from Paris by TGV, which is a motorway junction, which is less than 2 hours from 3 international airports – frankly Dijon is not not landlocked.”
Dominique Voynet recalls the fight led by environmentalists: “We want to work to serve the most isolated areas of our territory, in Haut-Doubs, in Haut-Jura. The time is now for climate change. We only have one planet.”
Environmentalists therefore support the measure proposed by the president of the Region to withdraw from the subsidy: “Let’s think about a project for the requalification of this airport, the Region is right. You will perhaps be surprised to see that environmentalists support Marie-Guite Dufay in this matter, we would have liked us to go even further on the plan airport, but it’s already a great first step, she’s courageous.”
