A two-year-old child died Tuesday April 9 in Rennes after being hit in a parking lot by a car driven by a man driving without a license, who was placed in pre-trial detention following his police custody this Thursday April 11 2024.
A man who drove without a license and caused the death of a young child on Tuesday in a parking lot in Rennes was placed in pre-trial detention on Thursday following his custody pending his trial on June 10. indicated the prosecution.
He will have to answer for “involuntary homicide by a driver who does not hold a driving license”, the same source indicated, specifying that “the defense has appealed this decision of the judge of freedoms and detention” .
The little boy, born in December 2021, “was walking in a parking lot, a few meters behind his mother” when he “fell to the ground for an unknown reason” then was hit by “a vehicle moving at very slow speed”, had explained the prosecutor Philippe Astruc.
The vehicle was “driven by a Georgian national born in 1983 in an irregular situation on the national territory, not holding a driving license”, added the magistrate, specifying that the driver’s “alcohol and drug tests were negative”.
The child, transported in absolute emergency to the university hospital, died after futile attempts at resuscitation.
