“The city of readers” award. Here are the seven finalists. The delivery ceremony in June

Fabio Genovesi, Leonardo Gori, Gianluca Monastra, Laura Pugno, Carmen Verde, Marco Vichi, Igiaba Scego: these are the finalists of The City of Readers Awardthe recognition supported by Unicoop Firenze born as part of the traveling festival of the same name organized by the CR Firenze Foundation and the Wimbledon APS Association which for seven years has involved leading authors, illustrators, translators and curators with the aim of promoting the book and the literature.

Selected from the over 100 guests who participated in the 2023 edition of the event and voted by the over 700 members of the Unicoop Firenze members’ reading clubs, shortlisted authors will meet the public on two occasions in the month of February. It starts on Friday 9th at 5.30pm at the Members’ Room of the Coop.fi Poggibonsi, (via Trento, 4th floor) with Leonardo Gori and Marco Vichi (with “Vite Rubate”, published by Guanda), Gianluca Monastra (with “Più massimo della night”, published by Clichy) and Laura Pugno (with “Melusina” published by Hacca), for an event moderated by Gabriele Ametrano, director of the Festival and president of the Wimbledon APS Association. Following this, on Friday 16 February at 5.30 pm in the members’ lounge of the Coop.fi in Lucca (Viale Puccini, 1718/b) it will be the turn of Fabio Genovesi (with “Oro pure”, published by Mondadori), Igiaba Scego (with “Cassandra in Mogadishu”, published by Bompiani) and Carmen Verde (with “Una Minimum Unhappiness”, published by Neri Pozza). The announcement of the winner will be held in June, on the occasion of the Florentine stage of the seventh edition of the Festival The City of Readers at Villa Bardini, the heart and historical headquarters of the event. “The City of Readers Award returns for the second consecutive year – he says Gabriele Ametrano – and we are happy that once again, in line with the spirit of the festival and the cultural project that give it its name, the protagonist is once again the public, the people who read”.
