Putin must lose the bet of terror that he is trying to spread in Ukraine, emphasized the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking at the opening of the 9th Delphi Economic Forum. At the same time, he asked for the help of his country’s partners in arms to “break Putin’s backbone” and win the war.
“It is very difficult to face alone the challenges of an unprovoked (from our side) war. We need the help of our partners. It is very difficult to stand against the enemy. And it is even more difficult to retake already occupied territories. That’s why we need unity and the appropriate armament” said – among other things – the President of Ukraine.
Zelensky’s requests to partners
“Ukraine is not asking for much,” Mr. Zelenskiy stressed, explaining that what his country needs are air defense systems and the appropriate weaponry so that Ukrainian forces can advance and restore order in the areas occupied by the Russians. . Zero tolerance to Russian propaganda and disinformation is also important, as he underlined.
“As soon as we have weapons and concrete political steps from our partners, we will break Putin’s backbone,” underlined Mr. Zelensky. At the same time, he added that Ukraine is grateful to its partners. But the systems it has are not enough, he commented. “If we really want to beat Putin, if nobody wants Putin to put the world into a Third World War,” he pointed out.
“For Putin, there is no Ukraine, there is no Ukrainian people, and this says only one thing, that he wants to completely exterminate us,” said Mr. Zelensky. While he also added that the Russians hate everything that is outside their borders and that’s why “we should isolate them”.
Zelensky’s gratitude
He emphasized that everything that Ukraine is asking for in order to prevail against the Russian forces “is absolutely realistic and depends on the political will of its partners”.
He also explained that time in the case of the war in Ukraine means human lives. Many human lives can be saved if there is no hesitation in decision-making, he said. Mr. Zelensky did not hesitate to express his gratitude to all those who help his country and all those who visit Ukraine and see for themselves what is at stake in the field.
In this context, he made special mention of the visit of the President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who, as he emphasized, had the opportunity to see firsthand the results of the terror that the Russians are trying to spread and how the people of Ukrainians face it.
In the above context, he underlined the need for unity from the partners. He pointed out, in fact, that “If there is no unity and the leaders start thinking about how to bypass the sanctions or re-engage Russia in economic projects that were ‘frozen'” because of this war, if all this happens we will lose unity. Without unity we will lose ground. Without fundamental military aid Ukraine will go backwards. What does it mean to lose the war? First of all, this is about the people themselves. Lands are not the most important thing. But who lives in them? People. If you lose land, you lose people and normalcy in their lives. And if – by God – we start retreating step by step, we will lose the entire state”.
