Although the Moskvich 5 crossover was shown at official events last summer, it will not be the next model of the Moscow Automobile Plant. Instead, another car was announced – a large crossover Moskvich 8 with a three-row seven-seater interior.
Sehol X8 Plus for China
Like other modern Muscovites, this one is taken from the range of the Chinese company JAC. The source turned out to be the JAC X8 Plus, which debuted in 2022 under the name Sehol X8 Plus (the subsidiary brand Sehol was abolished a year ago, its models moved under the main JAC brand). The X8 Plus model, in turn, is an improved version of the 2020 Sehol X8 crossover.
This is the largest SUV in the JAC range, and the new Moskvich 8 differs from it on the outside only in emblems and nameplates. Length – 4824 mm, width – 1870 mm, height – 1756 mm. Wheelbase – 2830 mm. That is, in terms of dimensions, it is a classmate of the Hyundai Santa Fe or Kia Sorento models.
The interior of the Moskvich also repeats the decoration of the original Jak. Equipment includes a 12.3-inch diagonal instrument screen, a media system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto protocols, all-round cameras, and wireless charging. But at the same time, a reservation was made that by the start of serial production, “the interior design and options may change.”
For Moskvich 8, a GDI gasoline engine (174 hp) and a seven-speed robotic gearbox are announced. In China, the JAC X8 Plus is offered with a 1.5 TGDI turbo engine (184 hp, 300 Nm) and a seven-speed “robot” with two clutches (although there is also a “mechanics”). Jak has only front-wheel drive, and the passport ground clearance is 170 mm.
The start of production and sales of Moskvich 8 crossovers is scheduled only for the end of this year. So it’s too early to talk about prices.
