The new acting rector of the National Aviation University became Ksenia Semenova, deputy of the Kyiv City Council. This is the first decision of the Ministry of Education and Science, adopted on the basis of the recommendation of the Supervisory Board of the university.
Petro Chernyshov, chairman of the Supervisory Board, is on the air of the Forbes YouTube project reportedthat for the first time in the history of the university it was headed by a woman. He also stated that in May the council plans to announce a competition for the post of rector of NAU, which will last three to four months.
Ksenia Semenova is a graduate and teacher of NAU, as well as a member of the Kyiv City Council. According to her, she has been trying to reform the university together with activists since 2015. But before, the state did not contribute to the implementation of changes. However, now the government’s position has allegedly changed and now they are trying to make NAU a “good” engineering university.
The former rector of NAU was under investigation as a result of embezzlement of 1.3 million hryvnias from budget funds by awarding himself bonuses. Although according to the terms of the contract, which the head of the university signed with the Ministry of Education, such a form of remuneration as a bonus was not provided for.
The illegal payments became known in 2023 after the Ministry of Education conducted an audit of the educational institution. Also, the illegal actions of the NAU ex-rector were confirmed by specialists of the State Audit Service and the conclusions of forensic examinations.
