Cuban nurse arrested for fraud of USD 55,000 to two banks in Miami – 2024-04-11 11:10:35

A young Cuban nurse was arrested by Florida authorities this Monday, April 8, accused of committing fraud against two banks in the city of Miami, in Miami-Dade County.

According to local media America TeVéthe woman was identified as Roxana de la Caridad García Caso, who is accused of having obtained about 56,000 dollars (USD) through two fraudulent loans.

The first occurred on March 16, 2023, when the Cuban woman went to the Truist Bank branch at 11700 North Kendall Drive to request a loan of USD 20,000.

Four days later, the woman went to Truist Lightstream Bank to request a second loan of $30,000 to purchase a car. Both loans were approved and deposited into an Ocean Bank account.

The funds in the account were depleted in about 10 days, however, no payment was made to any of the banks.

An investigation revealed that the funds were withdrawn in checks of a maximum of USD 9,000, just the right amount to pass below the threshold of what is usually reported in a Suspicious Financial Activity Report (SAR).

Additionally, the investigation revealed that García lied when applying for these loans in 2023, as she stated that she was working as a nurse for a well-known chain of clinics, however, her last employment records were from 2020.

A year after the loans were made, the investigation against him determined that it had been fraud, for which his arrest was ordered.

The Cuban woman was arrested this Monday afternoon while she was at the Westchester hospital. A day later, García appeared in court, where she was formally charged with two counts of grand theft and one count of organized fraud.

While the bail that was set for her is unknown, the local media indicates that the nurse’s defense requested a reduction of this, stating that the woman had not presented problems with the law.

At the moment, the young woman is no longer in the records of the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center (TGK).
