The Salvadoran Tennis Federation (FST) carried out the U12 and U18 National Ranking in which 27 athletes participate. This with the objective of seeking the sporting development of the youth and, in addition, adding points in the ranking to be eligible for the next international tournaments.
The competition, which will last until today, has already defined the U12 semifinals and resulted in the following matchups: Ignacio Martínez will face Emiliano Avilés while Matías Vilanova will face Andrés Cruz.
To reach the semifinals, the tennis players played very exciting games in the U12 quarterfinals. Ignacio Martínez defeated Claudio Peña Matasol 6-0 and 6-0; Emiliano Avilés beat Ricardo García 6-3 and 6-0; Matías Vilanova won 6-4 and 7-6 (4) against Fernando Castañeda and Andrés Cruz defeated Rafael Arévalo 6-1 and 6-2.
“It was a very exciting match, but I liked how I played my game because I didn’t leave any balls in the net. Now I must focus on the semifinals, which will be closer, since there is a very good level in the opponents,” commented Andrés Cruz.
The U18 category will have its final today, starting at 10:00 am on the Rafael Arévalo field, a duel that will face Barack Carballo and Gabriel Alfaro.
“The idea is that the athletes in the minor categories develop, that they compete and that they can play as much as possible and also that they play as a team, in doubles, a competition that will take place tomorrow starting at 11:00 am,” César commented. Cruz, development manager of the FST.
