Ice hockey: Rögle won the overtime drama against Växjö after a fluke goal

Rögle is only one victory away from the SHL final. Tonight – after a shot that went through Växjö’s Keegan Lowe – the team won its third consecutive semi-final victory, 3-2.

– It pays to shoot. The pucks are bouncing in for us now. Nothing suggests that we will lose this now, says Lucas Ekeståhl Jonsson, in TV4 Play’s broadcast.

The result was a real cold shower for Växjö, who won the shootout 34-26. Never has a team in an SHL playoff come back from a 0-3 deficit in games.

– Of course you are disappointed. I think we play our best match. Small margins that decide. But suites are meant to be broken, says Växjö’s Joel Persson.

“A big jack in the lip”

A smoky in the cup for Rögle, however, was that the star Simon Ryfors was forced to leave the ice after receiving a shot in the mouth.

– He is being stitched up now, a big gash in his lip, and probably won’t play again tonight. But no fracture or anything, says Rögle’s sporting director Hampus Sjöström to Aftonbladet.
